Tiger gets short straw
With the prospect of more wayward drives clattering off Firestone's pines today and the loss to arch rival Phil Mickelson of his prized world No 1 status, Tiger Woods' mood won't be helped by his draw in this week's PGA Championship.
Woods' playing partners off the 10th tee at 8.20 (local time) on Thursday and 1.35pm (1st tee) on Friday are reigning champion YE Yang and Vijay Singh.
The proximity of the gifted Korean will revive dispiriting memories of 12 months ago when Yang out-gunned Woods down the stretch at Hazeltine, while looking at Singh's woeful putting is unlikely to inspire much-needed confidence with the blade.
US Open champion Graeme McDowell has what the Americans call a marquee draw with Masters champion Mickelson and Open champion Louis Oosthuizen (1.35pm, 1st tee Thursday).
Meanwhile, Pádraig Harrington is with fellow former PGA champions John Daly and Davis Love (8.0am, 10th tee); Darren Clarke is with Jeff Overton and Kenny Perry (1.05pm, 1st tee); Rory McIlroy joins Steve Stricker and Adam Scott (1.15pm, 1st tee) and Shane Lowry is with Kevin Na and Scott Verplank (1.45pm, 10th tee).
