Mary Sheehy became an instant heroine after she coolly rolled in a 50-foot putt on the third extra hole at Sierra in Poland to give Ireland victory in the European Senior Women's Championship for the first time since 2013.

"It was just unbelievable to see that ball go in. I was so thrilled," said Sheehy after her epic battle with Belgium's Annick Riff.

Suzanne Corcoran set Ireland on the road to victory with an amazing 9&7 thrashing of Marianne Trussart, while Sheena McElroy and Carol Wickham won their foursomes match.

Ireland beat Spain 3-2 in the men's event to claim fifth place behind winners Scotland, with Jim Carvill, Adrian Morrow and Garth McGimpsey claiming the points.
