USA: How they rated

Stewart Cink 7:

P4 W1 H3 Pts 2 1/2.

Forgotten at the opening ceremony, but not in the match. The only player on either side not to lose.

Rickie Fowler 7:

P3 H2 L1 Pts 1.

Overcame early 'wrong ball' loss of hole to show why Corey Pavin picked him. Brilliant comeback for a singles half.

Jim Furyk 5:

P3 H1 L2 Pts 1/2.

Arrived €8m richer and bizarrely left out of first session. Poor pitch into a bunker on last hole of singles against Donald very costly.

Dustin Johnson 6:

P4 W1 L3 Pts 1.

Nearly man in the majors found cup debut hard going with Mickelson and then Furyk. But made partial amends with thrashing of Kaymer.

Zach Johnson 6:

P3 W2 L1 Pts 2.

Wild card omitted from fourballs. Did what he could after that and beat Harrington, but on losing team as he was in 2006.

Matt Kuchar 6:

P4 W1 H2 L1 Pts 2.

Unbeaten with Cink and impressive debut until singles, where Poulter gave him a real drubbing.

Hunter Mahan 5:

P3 W1 L2 Pts 1.

Another who might have expected to play first day and didn't. Then the singles came down to him and bogey on the 17th settled it.

Phil Mickelson 5:

P4 W1 L3 Pts 1.

Third defeat made him the American with the most losses - 17 - in cup history. Fine in singles, but Pavin would have hoped for far more.

Jeff Overton 8:

P4 W2 L2 Pts 2.

Surprise package. Pumped up from the start and even more so when he holed out from a fairway in third game. Beat Fisher to keep American cup hopes alive.

Steve Stricker 8:

P4 W3 L1 Pts 3.

Carried Woods to two wins and gave his side his perfect start to the singles by beating Westwood.

Bubba Watson 5:

P4 W1 L3. Pts 1.

Started his debut well, but how badly it tailed off. Was one over par in losing to Jimenez.

Tiger Woods 7:

P4 W3 L1 Pts 3.

Joint top-scorer and in the singles played the best golf of anybody, but he has now been on losing side five out of six times.
