Portuguese outlook looks bright

Welsh weather patterns and decreasing daylight hours have been blamed for the messy disruptions to the Ryder Cup.

However, it's worth nothing that the weather at 2012 venue Medinah in Chicago this weekend consisted of temperatures of 10 degrees centigrade, gusts of up to 40mph, rain, and even some frost. And up in Gleneagles, host of the 2014 Ryder Cup, the three courses were closed for three days.

That can only boost the chances of Portugal, one of the candidates for the 2018 staging of this event. The weather at Comporta -- the seaside site of the huge golf complex to be built for the Ryder Cup -- was sunny, bright and very warm yesterday.
