He didn't win a Major last year but 2016 still proved a great year for Rory McIlroy, with the Northern Irishman making the top five of the Sunday Times sporting rich list off the back of his achievements.

McIlroy scooped a $10m prize when he won the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup last September to finish his season on a high, with the Sunday Times placing him as the fifth wealthiest sportsman in the UK with an estimated net worth of almost €97m.

Lewis Hamilton took the top spot with a €154m fortune, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic's arrival in England sees him edge team-mate Wayne Rooney into second with €140m.

F1 driver Jensen Button (€101m) completes the top four, with Andy Murray (€90m), Jose Mourinho (€72m), Gareth Bale (€64m), Pep Guardiola (€59m) and NBA star Luol Deng (€59m) rounding out the top ten.
