Portmarnock (Old) has topped the links poll, pushing Royal County Down into second place from the last rankings published by the magazine two years ago.

Royal Portrush and The European Club have retained their third and fourth positions in the links category.

Declan O'Donoghue, editor of 'Backspin' says: "In the parkland category there's no change in the top four, with Mount Juliet impressively topping the poll again, while the K Club (Palmer), Adare and Druids Glen retain their positions.

"The top six courses in the parkland category -- including Killarney Killeen (fifth) and The Heritage (sixth) -- have all staged prestigious international events, reflecting the quality of Ireland's parkland jewels."

New entries to the rankings in the parkland category include Killeen Castle (11th), Lough Erne (13th), Concra Wood (23rd) and Bunclody (27th).
