The first event of the season will be played at Portmarnock Links on Monday April 12.

A little bit of history will be made on that date, as for the first time, a team from the host venue will take part.

The Links has traditionally staged the first of the Allianz events every year since the event's inception in 1996, but it opened to membership last year and will be represented by captain Brian Forrester, Lady Captain Laura O'Connor and President John O'Connor. Also taking part is Sarah Newman of Dragons' Den fame, a fine golfer who is Lady Captain of the K Club, hosts of the national final on September 2.

Newman will be accompanied by K Club captain Ray Finn and racehorse trainer Tom Taaffe, who is the vice-captain at Straffan. Grange, celebrating its centenary year, sends a strong team.

Club captain Hugh Miller is backed by former Irish Senior Ladies champion Sheena McElroy and Dr David Sheahan, former Walker Cup player.

Sheahan was the first amateur to win a European professional Tour event in when he emerged victorious in the Jeyes tournament played at Royal Dublin in 1962. Former Shamrock Rovers star of the 1960s, John Keogh, is captain of the Forrest Little team which plays on Monday week.

The full list of dates for the Allianz event is: April 12 -- Portmarnock Links; May 27 -- Slieve Russell; June 28 -- Cork Golf Club; July 20 -- Mount Juliet; August 4 -- Glasson. Final: September 2 -- The K Club.
