Players Championship betting guide: Should your money be going on Rory McIlroy
The tournament dubbed the 'fifth major' has so far eluded Rory McIlroy and despite his recent run of form, I expect that trend to continue.
The 18 holes at TPC Sawgrass are much more suited to McIlroy's playing partner Jordan Speith.
McIlroy's most potent weapon is his driver but that club will be spending a lot of time in the bag this week.
The World Number One's record in the tournament is patch at best. He missed the cut on his first three visits and although he has been in the top 10 over the past two seasons... he is no value at 7/1.
It's been just under a month since Speith won at Augusta National and the hangover excuses are well and truly gone.
He didn't fare too well in the WGC-Cadillac Match Play but he was 16 under par for the 49 holes he managed to play.
Sawgrass is all about accuracy and creativity and Speith has it in spades.
The track will also suit the in-form pair of Jim Furyk and Justin Rose but the value bet of the week may be Ian Poulter at 90-1 each way.
His putter has been blowing hot and cold but the lack of distance will suit him and at that price, it may be worth speculating.
Shane Lowry, Padraig Harrington and Graeme McDowell are all available at 125/1 if you fancy a real outside bet to follow for the weekend.
Speith to win @ 10/1
Poulter each/way @ 90/1
