Morgan continues a fine family tradition
FRED Moran continues a unique family tradition by his election as 2012 captain of Malahide GC.
How about this for a captaincy pedigree?
Fred's mother Maureen held the lady captaincy of Donabate. Therese O'Reilly (Nee Moran), Fred's sister, sadly departed, was a former Irish Ladies Close champion and lady captain of Grange GC.
But there's more: his brother Vincent was captain of Sutton GC, grandfather Frederick A Moran was a captain of Rush GC, and great-grandfather, Frederick J Moran was captain of Skerries GC.
Fred's father, Freddie Moran, was a great sportsman who represented Ireland in three sports -- rugby, athletics, and clay-pigeon shooting.
All set with their 'L' Plates for a new experience as 2012 captains of Malahide GC are: from left, Boys' Captain Paul O'Sullivan, Lady Captain Liz Lillis, Girls' Captain Niamh Purcell, Captain Fred Moran.
