Monkstown won the Munster AIG Senior Cup title for the first time in over half a century when they beat Castletroy 3-2 in a thriller at Cork GC.
Sean Desmond was the hero of the hour, claiming the winning point with a one-hole win over Cian Daly after Martin Poucher and Eoghan Long won their matches.
Andrew McCormack and Mark Campbell won for Castletroy, so that left it all resting on Desmond's match.
The 18-year-old needed a half on the 18th to win the match and it looked doubtful when his second found the trees. However, he played a great recovery shot that pitched short of the green and ran up to 15 feet, from where he lagged up to a foot to claim the match and the winning point.
It was an emotionally exhausting day for Monkstown as it took a 19th hole birdie from Nick Moore to see off a gallant Ballybunion 3-2, as Castletroy overcame an early deficit to Waterford Castle 3-2 in the other semi-final.
