Minor major lift

PLAY began at Killarney at 7.0 yesterday morning and already the crowds were streaming through the gates to watch the day's action.

By the end of play, Tour and Discover Ireland officials announced a first-day attendance of 18,303 at the Killeen Course. The comparable figure last year was 17,812.

As we have two new Irish Major champions on show at this year's event, can we take it that each Major title adds just over 245 people to the gate receipts?
