PHIL MICKELSON flashed out an early warning last night to his rivals at next month's US Masters after an eventful second round 67 moved him to within one stroke of the clubhouse lead at The Arnold Palmer Invitational, Florida.
The three-times Major Champion played the back nine at Bay Hill in a sizzling four-under 32 and then crowned a hit-and-miss front nine with a phenomenal eagle two at eight, where he holed-out from 134 yards.
Tied with Retief Goosen (67) and Kevin Na (70) on six-under, Mickelson trailed leaders Ben Curtis (67), DJ Trahan (68), Davis Love III (71) and Ernie Els (69) by one. Graeme McDowell's second round was marred by a disastrous eight at his final hole which left the Portrush man four over on the day. McDowell missed the cut after his disappointing 76 left him three over for the tournament.
