Irish teenager Olivia Mehaffey completed an amazing hat-trick of national golf title triumphs yesterday.
The 17-year-old from Royal County Down lifted the Welsh Ladies Open stroke-play title at Southerndown on the South Wales coast to follow her wins in the Irish Girls Open and Helen Holm Scottish Women's Open Stroke-play Championship.
She was forced to hang on for a tense one-stroke victory over England's Olivia Winning.
Sharvin joint second
Cormac Sharvin finished in a tie for second place in the prestigious Lytham Trophy at Royal Lytham and St Annes on the Lancashire Coast yesterday.
The former Irish champion from Ardglass posted a 72-hole total of 288, eight over par - some eight strokes adrift of Sweden's Marcus Kinhult who walked away with the victory.
Sharvin should have been out on his own in second place but made a mess of the last two holes - he dropped a stroke on the 17th and then got into all sorts of trouble on the final hole and slumped to a triple bogey seven.
Ballymena's Dermot McElroy posted a 294 total to finish 10th while Gary Hurley was further back on 296, the same total as Portmarnock's Geoff Lenehan.
