McIlroy to follow doctor's orders and stay on sidelines until rib injury heals
Rory McIlroy's 'Desert Swing' has stalled following his withdrawal from this week's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
McIlroy announced that he will not play Abu Dhabi following clinical examinations in Dubai yesterday on a rib injury he sustained in the BMW SA Open.
He played through the four rounds of the event with the rib area taped up and by taking anti-inflammatory pills because he did not want to disappoint the South African galleries.
But now that a stress fracture has been diagnosed, McIlroy will rest and rehab until the injury has healed. His absence is a blow to the Abu Dhabi event, but he may be fit for the Dubai Desert Classic (February 2-5).
"In situations like this you simply have to listen to the experts," he said.
