McIlroy keeping focus
RORY McILROY, the €10m prince among Irish golfers, has just about everything a young man could wish for, WRITES KARL MacGINTY. At the tender age of 20 and after just 29 months as a professional, the Down native can play in any tournament he desires as a member of the world's top-10.
Yet level-headed McIlroy won't let the trappings of stardom deflect him from his No 1 goal -- becoming the world's best player. Moments after signing the biggest endorsement contract of his career in Dubai yesterday, McIlroy insisted he'd never become complacent. "No, definitely not," said the Holywood youngster.
"I'm very fortunate to be playing the game I love for a living. I'm enjoying being in a groove at the minute but I know I have to keep working hard to keep it going.
"If I can do that, hopefully I can keep getting better and better and try to achieve what I want in the game, which is ultimately to get to be the best player in the world."
