McIlroy in his own words

"From a professional standpoint, it wasn't my best year. I was really encouraged with how I played at the end of the year, but, as a whole, it was disappointing. I didn't play well enough in the Majors. I didn't get myself into contention enough, so that's something I'm going to try and change this year. Though looking at everything personally (off the course), it was a great year."
ON 2013 HOW BEING ENGAGED AFFECTS HIS CAREER
"If anything, it will only help to have that stability -- knowing that everything in my life in that regard is set. It's a big step and, obviously, not one you take lightly. If you're engaged you plan on spending the rest of your life with that person, so it's a big decision, but I feel she's definitely the right girl for me."
LOWEST POINT LAST YEAR
"Probably at Muirfield. I'd never missed the cut at the Open. Anything I tried to do on the golf course, I couldn't do. I was putting into bunkers, all sorts of stupid stuff. I was low on confidence, which was very strange to me. I didn't believe in my own ability. I played with Phil the first two days at The Open and it completely demoralised me because he played so well."
SET-UP FOR 2014
"I'm using exactly the same set-up I used for the last quarter of last year, so not to be testing anything or tinkering around with anything else has been great."
PRE-SEASON IN DUBAI
Yeah, I did work my ass off, because I feel I needed to. My swing is quite a natural motion, it's always going to be evolving and changing, so I just have to keep on top of a few things. I played quite a lot of golf as well. I did a lot of gym work too."
"I'm trying to leave it a little fluid. I play this week and Dubai the week after next. If those two weeks feel good, I'll go straight to the Match Play. If not, I'll probably start LA. I'm not really set on anything apart from the two World Championships (Match Play and Doral), Houston, The Masters, Quail Hollow and TPC (Sawgrass). I'll play the Scottish Open the week before The Open and go to Akron before the PGA. I haven't really got a schedule. It's something I'm working on."
