Rory McIlroy put to one side his personal disappointment by appearing in upbeat form at the Pro-Am today at Wentworth.
McIlroy admitted it was going to be “very difficult” to concentrate in golf after announcing the split with his fiancee Caroline Woznicaki today ahead of their upcoming wedding.
The Northern Ireland golfer was in action with Peter Schmeichel, Phill Neville and Teddy Sheringham during the Pro-Am ahead of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and was able to put his personal disappointment to one side, sharing jokes with the former Manchester United players.
McIlroy is an avid United fan and clearly enjoyed sharing the round with the decorated players.
The golfer was clearly emotional at his press conference today when discussing the break-up.
“Look, I’m no different than anyone else,” McIlroy replied after taking a pause when asked how he was feeling.
He briefly brushed his eye with his hand and pulled down his cap a little lower before adding: “Everyone has been through break-ups and it obviously has been very, very difficult.”
McIlroy said that he would do his best to put the news to one side and remain professional ahead of the Pro-Am.
“I’m not going to lie. It’s going to be very difficult. But you know, at least when I get inside the ropes, I’ll just try and concentrate on the shot at hand. But yeah, it’s obviously going to be difficult.”
