Ireland got off to a flying start in the Senior Ladies Home International Championship at Elie and Earlsferry in Scotland as they well and truly put reigning champions England to the sword.
Having recorded a whitewash in the foursomes, Ireland required only one-and-a-half points from the five singles for victory and, with Sheena McElroy and Suzanne Corcoran in sparkling form, the target was soon in sight.
McElroy won three consecutive holes from the fourth against the experienced Janet Melville and went on to win 4&3, while Corcoran was also three up after six holes against Barbara Laird as she swept to a 6&4 success.
Carol Wickham beat Amanda Mayne 3&2, but there was disappointment for Helen Jones, who lost 4&2 to Christine Quinn, and Pat Doran, who lost by two holes to Caroline Berry despite being two up after 14.
