McCarroll best of Irish

Brendan McCarroll is the best-placed Irishman heading into the closing round of the European Tour's Qualifying School stage one at Wychwood park in Crewe.

The EuroPro Tour campaigner boosted his hopes of a stage-two place with a four-under 68 to move into a share of 27th place on 218, nine behind English leader James Heath, who had a 71 for 209.

Paul O'Hanlon shot 75 for 218 and amateur Dara Lernihan is on 222 after a 75. Cian Curley (228) and David Rawluk (229) were among five Irishmen who missed the cut.

At Circolo Golf Bogogno in Italy, Ruaidhri McGee posted 69 to move into a share of 29th on 213. Marco Guerisoli of Italy and Julien Grillon of France share the lead on 203.
