Maguires forced to skip Slovenia

Lisa Maguire is not defending her European Ladies Amateur title over the next four days at the Diners Golf and Country Club in Slovenia.

A year ago the Slieve Russell teenager became the first Irish winner of the prestigious crown, but this time neither her nor twin sister Leona are in the 144-strong field.

They both entered, but, due to their hectic playing schedule, pulled out and are now preparing for their assault on the Irish Open at Killeen Castle in a fortnight's time.

Their absence means that the Irish challenge for the title is reduced to a mere three players -- Jessica Carty, Paula Grant and Chloe Ryan.

Carty from Holywood is fresh from her triumph in the Irish Girls Championship at Waterford and will be in buoyant mood, while both Grant

(Lisburn) and Ryan (Castleroy) have shown some good form this season.
