Leona Maguire, the world number one women's amateur golfer, has received an invitation to play on the LPGA Tour in the Ana Invitational tournament from March 28-April 3.
Maguire, 21, will join the top Tour players and five other amateurs at the prestigious event to be played on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course in Rancho Mirage, California.
Currently, the Cavan-born golfer is preparing for the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Hilton Head, South Carolina which starts tomorrow.
Maguire's Duke University team is expected to be one of the contenders for the team title.
The opportunity to compete in the Ana Invitational is another welcome opportunity for Maguire to test the waters in the professional game.
It is expected that she will join the paid ranks at some stage in the relatively near future.
Last July, the multi-tournament winner at home and abroad caused a sensation by finishing second in the ISPS Handa Ladies European Masters on the Ladies European Tour.
Maguire finished just a shot behind winner Beth Allen on 11-under par.
That display would have been worth €50,000 if she was a professional.
She gave another noteworthy performance in the Evian Championship, the fifth Major on the Ladies Tour schedule, where she became the first amateur from the Republic to make the cut at a women's Major.
Maguire was voted the 2015 Irish Independent-Croke Park Hotel Young Sportstar of the Year.
