Maguire edged out

Lisa Maguire narrowly missed out on a medal in the European Ladies Amateur Championship in Finland.

The Slieve Russell teen produced a steady display over the Aura course in Turku and finished with a one-over-par 72 for a level-par aggregate of 284 to be just two strokes outside the medal placings.

The Irish international was eight strokes adrift of new champion Emily Pedersen of Denmark, but Maguire – whose twin sister Leona failed to make the three-round cut – can feel pleased with the way she performed in a high-quality field.

Her display augurs well for next month's Ladies British Stroke-Play Championship and the Home Internationals in September.
