BELIEVE it or believe it not, this fascinating little titbit was heard on the PGA of America's own private TV channel at Atlanta Athletic Club yesterday.
Apparently, a small boy picked up Rory McIlroy's ball when he hit it into the rough to the left of the third fairway during Thursday's first round.
Immediately urged by spectators to replace the ball where he'd found it, the unidentified child put it down a matter of inches from a tree root.
A few minutes later, McIlroy (pictured) would strike the root with his seven-iron, in the process injuring his right wrist and straining muscles and tendons in his forearm.
