Lawrie takes president's prize

PETER Lawrie won the President's (Des Smyth) Prize in the Esso-sponsored Links Golf Society outing at Royal Dublin on Thursday last.

The Dubliner, who plays in the Maybank Malaysian Open this week, shot 69 (34, 35) gross to win on a countback from fellow Tour player Damien McGrane.

McGrane was out in 31, helped by an eagle at the 510-yard par-five sixth and birdies at the third and seventh, but he dropped a shot on the 17th which cost him on the countback. Other leading scores were David Mortimer (Ashbourne, 72), John Dwyer (Ashbourne, 72), Frank Leonard (Knightsbrook, 73) and Eamonn Brady (Clontarf, 73).

Meanwhile another winter society, the Boyne Links, plays at Roganstown tomorrow and Killeen Castle on Thursday week, March 11. For timesheets, contact Bobby Browne on 041 -- 982 8793.
