Irish trio set for trophy

THE best female amateur golfers in Britain and Ireland are gathered at Royal Porthcawl on the south coast of Wales for the biennial Vagliano Trophy two-day contest against the cream of the Continent, which begins on Friday.
Ireland will be represented by Leona Maguire, Danielle McVeigh and Stephanie Meadow. Four foursomes and eight singles matches will be played on both Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, Barry Anderson, Paul Cutler, Alan Dunbar, John Greene , Jeff Hopkins and Reeve Whitson begin Ireland's assault on the prestigious Brabazon Trophy at Burnham and Berrow GC in Somerset tomorrow.
