Stackstown's favourite son comes home
Padraig Harrington's likeability makes it easy to root for him every time he tees up a golf ball.
His demeanour brings to mind something the late, great Jim Murray once wrote about Ben Crenshaw and an effortlessly amiable smile that made him look, perpetually, like "someone who just got a new bike for Christmas".
Harrington never seems to wear the weight of the world on his shoulders, no matter the context of a golf round. So, if Paul Dunne couldn't quite write the fairytale at St Andrews last weekend, a Harrington win would have delivered pretty tumultuous compensation.
It didn't quite happen of course, but the spectacle of him competing so thrillingly for a fourth Major will surely add to the chemistry around his beloved Stackstown next Friday when 'The Padraig Harrington Experience' offers unique access to the two-time Open champion with team-scramble, golf clinic and question and answer session.
