Dermot McElroy gave a five-star performance to secure a vital singles point which helped Great Britain and Ireland grab a narrow halfway lead over the Continent of Europe in the Jacques Leglise Trophy match in Spain yesterday.
Having failed to win in the foursomes with David Boote (Wales), the Ballymena teenager fired on all cylinders in the afternoon at Neguri.
He won the 16th to claim victory over Florian Loutre (France) after Callum Shinkwin and Toby Tree had given GB and I a flying singles start with wins. Gavin Moynihan and Gary Hurley played together in the foursomes and took a share of the spoils, but lost their singles games.
The foursomes ended with Great Britain and Ireland leading 2.5-1.5 and the singles were shared 4-4.
