Grant's Q-School dream fades

Stephen Grant's slim hopes of progressing to the next stage of the European Tour Qualifying School were virtually dashed at Fleesensee in Germany yesterday when he slipped to a three-over-par 75 in his third round.

The former Shamrock Rovers footballer finished on 217 and in joint 39th place, five strokes outside the crucial top 15. Cian Curley and Shane Franklin are even further down the field on 222.

At Wychwood Park, the Irish fared even worse with Ross Oliver slumping to a 77 and out of contention on 222. Matt McAlpine is on 223, with Damian Mooney on 226, Chris Hughes 230 and Andrew Hogan 231.
