GRAEME McDowell has ended Shane Lowry's fairytale run at the World Matchplay Championships in Arizona.
Lowry's putter deserted him today as he looked to build on ealier victories over Rory McIlroy and Carl Petterson.
McDowell stormed into the lead from the off capitalising on poor course management from Lowry to go three up after eight.
The Northern Irishman holed a 30 feet putt on the next to go four up with four to play.
Needing to win the four remaining holes Lowry took the 15th to trail by three with three remaining.
Lowry couldn't take advantage of an opening on 16 however and McDowell won 3&2 to advance to tonight's last eight where he will meet Jason Day.
