Gallacher holds nerve

Published 04/02/2013 | 04:00

Stephen Gallacher holed a dramatic eagle down the stretch to win the Dubai Desert Classic yesterday, overcoming early jitters to beat playing partner Richard Sterne by three shots.

Gallacher (71) finished with a 22-under total of 266 to take his second European Tour win, and his first since 2004.

Gareth Maybin's final-round 70 lifted him into a tie for 12th place on 13-under, worth €30,058. Peter Lawrie was two shots further back in a tie for 17th, worth €21,812, after a 70, while a double-bogey seven on the final hole of his 72 left Damien McGrane in a share of 74th.

Meanwhile, Galway-born Alison Walshe finished 10th in the Volvik RACV Ladies Senior Masters.
