CONNACHT Branch GUI secretary Enda Lonergan has come down from the mountains with pockets bulging with cash for a good cause.
Lonergan set himself a serious task by committing to climb Croagh Patrick 10 times between March 12-17 in aid of Irish Autism Action.
To do it once is tough enough, but repeating the climb time after time pumps up the challenge to a different level.
The bould Enda's goal was to raise €2,500 for the charity. In fact, he made €3,539. He also got an unexpected side benefit -- a first ever win in the Connacht Senior Alliance after 12 years as a member.
"It must have been the fitness! But on a serious note, I want to thank all those who contributed to Irish Autism Action," said Lonergan, who will be central to the running of the Radisson Blu West of Ireland Championship which starts on Friday.
