Dunne's hard work pays off handsomely

WHAT a great recovery from a slump in form by Maria Dunne of Skerries.

Prior to the start of 2012 she played off a three handicap and had lost her place on the Irish international team.

Maria and coach Roger Yates (St Anne's) did some cold-eyed analysis of what was needed to restore her to premier level, and when they agreed on a plan, the hard work began.

The effort paid off handsomely. At club level Dunne won the Lady Captain's prize off scratch handicap, and the Lady President's prize.

She got back on the Irish team for the recent Home Internationals and her handicap was at plus-one when she teamed up with GUI international Eoin Arthurs of Forrest Little to win the prestigious East of Ireland Mixed Foursomes title at The K Club.

The two top golfers are work colleagues in The Grange Driving Range in Portmarnock.
