Dunne and Hume stay on track to progress

Paul Dunne and Jack Hume, both members of the victorious Walker Cup team at Royal Lytham and St Annes earlier this month, kept themselves in prime positions to move a step closer to securing European Tour cards with solid performances in Austria yesterday.
Dunne, the Open Championship hero from Greystones, and Hume of Naas are bracketed together on 139 - five-under par - over the Ebreichsdorf course in joint seventh position.
A double-bogey five at the short 16th was the one hiccup for Dunne who carded six birdies in an impressive round of 69 which followed his 70 of Tuesday.
Hume collected two birdies in the last three holes as he posted a 71 to add to his 68 of the previous day.
If Dunne and Hume keep their heads over the next two days then they should progress to the next qualifying stage next month.
Meanwhile, the Irish contingent at Collingtree Park in Northampton did not fare nearly as well as the duo in Austria.
Northern Irishman Reeve Whitson, the most experienced of the Irish playing in Northampton, fired a highly-creditable 69 yesterday but his 78 of Tuesday virtually put him out of the reckoning.
Ciaran Boggan and JD Guiney are both behind Whitson on 151 and 152 respectively.
