SPORT and Tourism Minister Mary Hanafin and ILGU president Anne Wallace attended Donabate Golf Club last Friday night when ladies golfing legend Mary McKenna was deservedly honoured by the club members.

McKenna learned her golf at Donabate as a youngster and went on to become Ireland's greatest woman golfer.

The 2010 Curtis Cup captain, McKenna has contributed hugely to the game at all levels and is internationally renowned for her golfing prowess. A born winner, she played on nine Curtis Cup teams, including the 1986 team which became the first GB and Ireland side to beat the Americans on US soil in the event. She also played nine times in the Vagliano Cup (GB and Ireland v Europe) and won eight Irish Ladies Close titles.

LUTTRELLSTOWN CASTLE is holding an open day for former members on Saturday, December 5 and not December 15 as we reported last week. For further information, contact the club on 01 8609600.
