Cup tribute for Charlie

Enniscrone is one of golf's special places and the club proved it again last Friday with a huge turnout for the fifth staging of the annual Charlie McGoldrick Cup.
Celebrated in memory of the club's much-loved PGA professional of 21 years, who passed away after a battle with cancer at the age of 51 in 2011, an entry of over 150 was a testament to his popularity.
"Charlie was a brilliant teacher of the game," Enniscrone stalwart Séamus Duffy said in a note. "He always honed in on the positive, and you would leave him after a lesson believing that you were ready to play the best golf of your life!"
Séamus reports that this year's Charlie McGoldrick Cup was the most successful to date, with prizes generously donated by Joe Kennedy, Florrie Duffy, Titleist's Keith Bardon and Pro Quip's Gerry Green.
Unique in that it is open to men, women and juniors, ILGU Chief Executive Sinead Heraty claimed the ladies prize.
