"He's been socialising with the likes of Rory McIlroy, so he's been getting ideas of taking up golf later in life," said Connemara club captain Brian Hughes.

"We're delighted we can honour Ryan as he's a local legend in the area. He always gives the area a plug on his show which is very important for us here on the west coast."

The Connemara club, which has seen golfers Tom Watson, Christy O'Connor Jr and former Taoiseach Brian Cowen regularly grace its fairways, expect 500 people to turn up to the presentation which will see Tubridy arrive via horse and cart.
