Boost for Lee Valley

LEE Valley Golf Club have announced a three-year sponsorship agreement with the Mardyke Arena, UCC for their prestigious Senior Scratch Cup.

This is good news in the current economic environment and a strong field has been arranged for this year's event to be held at the Cork club on Saturday and Sunday, March 27/28.

The event offers a strong test the week before the first amateur Major of the season, the West of Ireland championship.

Last year's winner was Shane Lowry, who won the 3 Irish Open just a few weeks after his victory in the Lee Valley Scratch Cup.

That's a good omen for the players in the field, including Irish Close champion Pat Murray, South of Ireland title holder Robert Cannon and current Irish internationals Cian Curley, James Monaghan, Connor Doran, Reeve Whitson, Chris Selfridge, Andrew Hogan and Paul Dunne.

The first challenge is for players to make the 36-hole cut on the Saturday, and then it's all to play for the following day.

Competitors can book for the event and overnight stay from €99. The golf-only fee is €50.
