Six-up with six to play, the 19-year-old has to make a nerve-jangling up-and-down from a back bunker at 18 on the Majlis Course at the Emirates Club to stay one ahead of hard-charging Justin Rose.

TOUR officials are among those praying for a McIlroy win at Fanling as it keeps the Race to Dubai alive until the season finale. Victory is brilliantly sealed when McIlroy (22) chips in from a greenside bunker at 18, making up for his sudden-death defeat here in 2008.

Yet, McIlroy's too drained by Dengue Fever to deny Luke Donald at Jumeirah Golf Estates the next week.

A mini-crisis in early summer, in which McIlroy misses four cuts in five events, clearly dents his morale, yet the cloud lifts after a pep-talk from Stockton at Firestone in August and he produces the performance of his young life at Kiawah. Once again, McIlroy finishes eight clear, a PGA record, as he becomes the youngest multiple Major winner since Seve.
