Gigginstown duo take aim at Bowl

Published 02/04/2013 | 16:07

First Lieutenant
First Lieutenant

Gigginstown House Stud have declared both First Lieutenant and Quito De La Roque for the Betfred Bowl at Aintree on Thursday.

First Lieutenant, who ran a cracking race at Cheltenham to finish second in the Ryanair Chase, will again be ridden by Bryan Cooper, while Paul Townend, who won the Kinloch Brae Chase at Thurles on Quito De La Roque, keeps the ride in the enforced absence on medical grounds of retained jockey Davy Russell.

Heading the home defence is Silviniaco Conti, who will attempt to atone for a late departure in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The Paul Nicholls-trained chaser has already won the Charlie Hall Chase, Betfair Chase and Denman Chase this season and looked sure to be involved in the blue riband when crashing out three fences from home.

Taking him on are The Giant Bolster, fourth in the Gold Cup, and Cape Tribulation, who was fifth, while Menorah will attempt three miles again.

Whodoyouthink, from the Oliver McKiernan yard, and Wayward Prince make up the eight-runner field.
