BRIAN O’DRISCOLL was the hero for UCC as they overcame a brave IT Carlow side in extra-time to advance to the semi-finals of the Sigerson Cup.

Substitute O’Driscoll’s point was the only score of the additional spell and saw UCC prevail by the slimmest of margins.

Hosts Carlow IT were reduced to 14 men early in the second half when Luke Flynn was shown a straight red card but they responded brilliantly, via a Michael Hurley goal, to edge ahead, 1-4 to 0-5.

However, the visitors rallied to eventually force extra-time, laying the platform for O’Driscoll to seal their last-four spot.
