RTE’s Damien O’Reilly was just one of a host of Cavan people ‘arrested’ recently and he’s facing the prospect of a night in jail.

O’Reilly was taking part in the Cavan County Board’s Jailbreak, which will see nearly 60 people detained in Crumlin Road Jail next March.

The RTE Radio presenter was detained at the Boar’s Head, a well-known GAA pub on Dublin’s Capel Street, recently along with several others and following a brief trial was sentenced.

Each of the detainees has to raise €3,000 with Breffni County officials hoping to generate nearly €200,000 through this novel initiative.

Crumlin Road Jail is a former jail in north Belfast which was decommissioned in 1996 and is now a tourist attraction. And though this is a fund-raiser the prisoners won’t have many creature comforts, being force to provide their own bedding for their short stay.
