Waterford haven't won a game in this championship since 2014 and Limerick beat them for the third time at the Gaelic Grounds.

Whatever chance Waterford had of springing a surprise was dealt a blow when Barry Power was rather harshly shown a straight red card after 24 minutes.

The Deise had a much better second half but were rocked by a late goal by Calvin Moran.

The visitors had the opening point from Sean Whelan-Barrett but then Limerick's Noel Callanan, Sean Ryan and early substitute Niall McAuliffe (1f) had two points each, with Karl Moloney also on the mark.

Waterford got their second point on 26 minutes to leave Limerick ahead by 0-7 to 0-2 at half-time.

Three times in the second half Waterford reduced the deficit to three points but Calvin Moran's late goal finally sank the brave Déise.
