Mayo captured their 24th Connacht U-21 title in dramatic fashion when they came with a late surge to deny Roscommon’s bid for a third title in a row.
An early goal from man of the match Diarmuid Murtagh set champions Roscommon on their way and they led by 1-6 to 0-4 at the break and looked set for the tenth crown at this level.
But Mayo, appearing in their first final since 2009, never gave up and managed to stay within a few points of Roscommon going into the closing stages.
And then three minutes from time they hit the front for the first time when Liam Irwin fisted a cross from James Carr to the back of the net.
Murtagh responded with an equaliser going into stoppage time but Mayo sealed the crown when Michael Plunkett landed the winner after a good passing movement.
