I'm looking forward to returning to familiar territory in Galway on Saturday night for the launch of the history of my home club, Kilkerrin-Clonberne.

Fifty Green Fields charts the life and times of a club that was founded in 1888 and which, its 129-year history, has provided over 100 players for Galway football teams in all grades.

The title of the book comes from the unusual fact that at various stages the club played in 50 different fields across the two parishes.

It is currently represented on the Galway senior team by Shane Walsh, while John Divilly won All-Ireland medals in 1998 and 2001.

Christy Tyrrell and Johnny Geraghty were on the Galway three-in-a-row team in 1964-'65-'66. I may be accused of bias but I have never seen a better goalkeeper than Geraghty, He was a great teacher too as I can attest from learning Latin and Irish under him in secondary school!
