Watch: President Michael D. Higgins lifts League trophy with Galway captain David Burke
President Michael D. Higgins was at the Gaelic Grounds to on Sunday to witness Galway's triumphant 16 point win over Tipperary in the Division One final of the National Hurling League .
President Higgins, a former TD who served 24 years in Galway West, was on hand to award Galway captain David Burke the Tribesmen's first league trophy in seven years.
The President seemed a bit surprised at first when asked to lift the trophy with Burke but he soon latched onto the opportunity to hoist the league title in what was Galway's first league triumph since the Tribesmen defeated Cork in the 2010 Division One final in Semple Stadium.
Higgins attends a wide variety of trophy ceremonies in his capacity as President, but it seems that Sunday's trophy presentation was a bit more special for the 76-year-old than most.
