Tyrone finish with a flourish
Tyrone 0-18 Monaghan 1-11 (Allianz NHL Div 3A final)
Tyrone's victory in this final sets up a crack at back-to-back promotions in next weekend's play-off against Donegal.
Skipper Damien Casey scored nine points as the Red Hands came from behind to beat Monaghan by four at Keady.
A tight game was level on four occasions before Tyrone pulled away in the closing stages. Monaghan went four points ahead with three Rory Meegan frees, but Tyrone responded with scores from Casey and Conor Grogan to draw level by the 22nd minute.
Stephen Lambe and Mark Winters traded scores, and the sides were still deadlocked when the Red Hands were awarded a penalty in the 32nd minute for a foul on Grogan. But the opportunity was lost when Casey's effort was turned around a post by Kevin Crawley.
Tyrone did go in front for the first time with Casey's third free, and they led by 0-6 to 0-5 at the interval.
Casey shot them four ahead, but back came the Farney men with a Lambe goal to equalise. The Red Hands hit six of the next nine points as they eased into a five-point lead.
Mark Winters, Gerard Gilmore and Aidan Kelly all fired over quality scores, while Conor McNally and Padraig McHugh defended courageously as Monaghan worked hard to get back into contention.
Lambe and Meegan kept them in touch, but they were reduced to 14 men when full back Peter Treanor received a straight red card in the 66th minute.
There was to be no denying Tyrone at that stage, and they pushed for the finish line with scores from Casey and Christopher Cross.
