Monaghan led at half time by 1-5 to 1-3 after Warwickshire had opened the scoring with a goal in the first minute.

Ronan Curran put Monaghan into the lead for the first time with a goal after 24 minutes but poor shooting saw them register 12 wides in all in the opening half and the victors seemed to build belief from this wastefulness.

Warwickshire raced into a four-point lead on the resumption, Liam Reale's sideline cut going all the way to the Monaghan net with Conor Robins, Pauric Crehan and substitute Kieran Boxwell adding points as the momentum looked to have shifted.

However they were not to score again as Monaghan gritted their teeth and took increasing control.

They retook the lead through a Mark Treanor goal with 15 minutes remaining.

In that time they closed it out with six unanswered points from Stephen Lambe (four) and one each by Fergal Rafter and Treanor to win by seven in the end.
