Treacy stars as Dubs end Model reign
Dublin 2-12 Wexford 1-8
Wexford's recent domination of the Leinster U-21 scene was emphatically ended by Dublin in Wexford Park.
Joe Fortune's team outfought and outclassed the three-in-a-row reigning champions in their own ground, fully deserving their seven-point winning margin.
The Dubs had victory wrapped up long before the end, with Conor McDonald's injury-time consolation goal barely raising a ripple of acknowledgement from the deflated home crowd.
Two quickfire goals early in the second half did irreparable damage to Wexford resolve and buoyed a classy and self-assured Dublin team.
Just two points separated the teams at the time and Wexford had the wind at their backs.
First, Seán Ryan took possession 35 metres from goal, curiously devoid of Wexford marker. By the time anyone could get close enough to make a tackle, the Setanta forward had already found the net.
Before Wexford had time to digest that, top scorer Seán Treacy scavenged another goal from the remnants of a saved Mark McCallion delivery. Immediately, a palpable air of pessimism pervaded Wexford Park.
From there, it was all about defence for Dublin and theirs was exemplary.
Eoghan O'Donnell took the TG4 man of the match award for his shackling of McDonald, until that late goal that put a slightly better sheen on a surprisingly one-sided result.
Dublin play Kilkenny conquerors Westmeath in the Leinster semi-final in Parnell Park on June 15.
