Tipperary hurling legend and member of 'Hell's Kitchen' fullback line passes away
Former Tipperary hurler Michael Maher has passed away after a long illness at the age of 87.
The five-time All-Ireland champion was a renowned member of the storied fullback - also containing John Doyle and Kieran Carey - that became known as 'Hell's Kitchen'.
Maher won All-Ireland titles in 1958, 1961, 1962, 1964 and 1965, and was a member of the last Tipp team to retain the Liam MacCarthy Cup - a feat Michael Ryan's current side will try to emulate in 2017.
After retiring as a player, Maher became the Tipperary County Board chairman and later a selector with the senior team.
