Wexford are at a different level and though the Kingdom have made vast strides in recent years, they were given a painful reality check.

Kerry did not help their cause finishing with 13 men, having Tom Murnane sent off for a second yellow and then late on Brian Murphy got a straight red.

Wexford were quickly into their stride as they took advantage of a strong wind.

Brian Murphy was hurling well in the Kerry full-back line, but two long-range points from Andrew Shore and another from Aidan Nolan had Wexford five clear before Mike O'Leary replied.

Then came the crucial score of the half, in the 14th minute, when Kerry were caught in possession and a move involving Shore and Podge Doran set up Conor McDonald for a goal .

Harry Kehoe's free-taking kept punish Kerry indiscretions, while points from Liam Og McGovern and Lee Chin saw Wexford lead 1-13 to 0-4 at half-time.

Despite three points from Shane Nolan, Kerry never threatened a comeback after the break. Wexford piled on the misery, with Shore getting a goal and a succession of points as the visitors pulled away.
